College Football Week One Pick Em
Week 0 was not great. A 1-3 record with two picks that looked automatic after the first half of the game. Stanford couldnt hold off an injured Hawaii QB and for some reason stopped running the damn ball, and Kansas and Fresno only put up 7 points total after the half following a 31 point first half.
We live and we learn though. We can call last week a mulligan without a full slate and a group of what we can call not great games. This week though we have one of the most exciting week one slates probably of all time. More like of all time.
Big Games
Texas (+1.5) vs Ohio State
Possibly the biggest week one nonconference game of all time. Definitely of recent memory. Two teams that legitimately could meet again at the end of the year. Lots of star power in this one with Arch Manning and Jeremiah Smith. Thats what everyones going to be talking about, but the real difference maker in this one are the defenses. I think Texas possibly has the best defense in the country and that travels. I think Texas goes to Ohio and wins this one in a statement game.
TAKE: Texas +1.5 (Lock of the Week)
Clemson (–3.5) vs LSU
Another two teams that a lot of people have making it to the end. Both are more experienced teams with high powered offenses. But a lot like the Texas and Ohio State game I think defense is what makes the difference. Clemson has several defensive lineman that will likely be first round picks and I think this is the game that everyone bookmarks Sammy Brown as the best linebacker in his class. Cade Klubnik and LSU are just too much for LSU and LSUs losing streak to start the season continues.
TAKE: Clemson –3.5
Notre Dame (–2.5) vs Miami
I have been saying since he was at Oregon that Mario Cristobal is an overrated coach that recruits well but cant win big games. I think that is on full display here. Notre Dame is going to run the ball and say it with me people play really good defense. I dont think its pretty or a fun game but I just dont see Miami being able to do much against Notre Dame and the Irish just end up laying on them for most of the game.
TAKE: Notre Dame –2.5
Other Picks
South Florida +6
Baylor +2.5
Georgia Tech –4.5
Syracuse/Tennessee Over 50.5
Alabama/Florida State Under 50.5
Utah –5.5
South Carolina –7.5
North Carolina +3.5
Nebraska –6.5
Homer Pick of the Week
Western Michigan (+20.5) vs Michigan State
I have decided to add a Homer pick of the week after last weeks UNLV debacle where I put them on the card just because I am from Las Vegas and wanted Dan Mullen to be successful but it ended up hurting me in the long run. So just for funsies. Im gonna take my alma mater Western Michigan to keep this one close. Michigan State does return Aidan Chiles and Nick Marsh which alone could be enough to cover the spread, but State did not look great last year and who knows what Western will look like. Sparty off. Row the boat.
Lock of the Week
Texas +1.5 vs Ohio State
I really believe in Texas for whatever reason so lets roll with it. Another thing is I dont get why every year people take someone super hyped like Arch Manning and go just “I dont know do we know hes going to be good? He looked really good in the two games he started but thats only two games. Blah, blah, blah.” Hes a Manning that can run the ball in a quarterback friendly system. I think hes going to be ok.
Chaos Parlay
These are three games that I think the wrong team is favored. Do with that what you will.
